Once again the coolest guitar competition on the planet, Guitar Idol 2009 drew thousands of entries from around the world and the standard was fantastic.

We knew Guitar Idol would be big, but even we at Lick Library were taken aback by just how big it was. As the world’s leading online destination for guitarists, we’re proud to sponsor any initiative that gives recognition to aspiring players.

The live webcast of the event was a great success with tens of thousands of viewers worldwide watching the finals live and voting for their winning performance.

Most gratifying of all, when it came to the moment of truth – the showdown, on the live stage at the London Guitar Show – all the finalists stepped up to be counted, handled the pressure and gave the packed house a performance to remember. Congratulations then, to the winner, Jack Thammarat from Thailand, and to the other 11 finalists who travelled from all over the world to be there.

Jack walked away with a PRS custom 24 presented to him by PRS endorsee Ace from Skunk Anansie, plus a Marshall JVM stack. He was also awarded a special prize of a £3000 custom guitar made by Rob Williams Guitars.

Congratulations also to everyone else who took part – you helped make Guitar Idol 2009 competition a monster.

many people seem to misunderstand the concept of emotion.music is a language people, a language with different accents and ideals. these champs played with emotion THEIR emotion their own personal feel and understanding for music.that you think is emotionless might be very emotional for them.just because you do not understand it does not mean its emotionless peace and respect.

I enjoyed watching all of the players! I't hard to pick the best because what is the best? The best is what you are in the mood for at that moment in time! I am 48 and have been playing for 40 of those years and what have I learned, Well I have learned that as a player I am never satisfied with my own playing and I never criticize another player! Cheers everyone.

First of all I'd like to say everyone pretty much rocked!!! Way to go guys! I enjoyed listening to them. Its amazing to watch how people effortlessly play so good, and how much they get into it and really try. Thats what i mostly admire about guitarist, their effort, their emotion, and how much they get lost in the music their playing. I admired Daniele Gottardo, Hedras Ramos, Ozzy Ozielzino, Jack Thammarat, and Muris Jarajic. You guys blew me away, and I think you for that!!!! Bethany Black :) <3 :)

Hats off to all the guys in the contest. I enjoyed listening to each one of them. As for those of you who like to criticize, why werent you in the competition?! I agree as far as the emotion, but Randy Rhoads is the only guitarist in my opinion to play with emotion. And there is only one Randy Rhoads. I say if you got it flaunt it!!! And thats exactly what these guys did. And if you can play with emotion and soul, enter next years competition, 'cause I'd like to hear it!!!! ... Jerry Black.

Most of these guys would kick my ass technically. But where is the feel and melodic sympathy? Is this competion about demo-ing every known technique, or about making music?

I agree with many of the comments about needing more melody, and overall too much shredding.Jeff Beck,Gimoure,Santana, all did amazing things with simple riffs. I will say that Satriani, to me has a lot of melody and shredding combined. I think for songs without lyrics it is hard to beat sat,and Vai. The bands that actually have singers and want to make money need more of a Santana,Clapton type of individual. After all it is one thing to consider who sounds the best, but who has the most money? My ex guitar teacher Randy Gouge, from Knoxville,Tn could play with any of these guys.He was not impressed with himself and neither should these guys be although they are excellent.Remember people like Randy Rhoads whould wanted to quit touring with ozzy to study classical guitar, now that is a true guitarist and my personal favorite.
