Guitar competitions

Licklibrary.com is home to some of the coolest guitar competitions on the planet! 2008 has seen the ‘Win a Steve Vai guitar’ competition where we gave you the chance to win a signed Steve Vai JEM, and the Worldwide Guitar Idol competition which saw the final 12 entrants from thousands of entries worldwide performing in the Guitar Idol finals at the London Music Show in June 2008.

The lucky winner not only walked away with a £2,500 PRS guitar, a signed Joe Satriani amp and a bundle of assorted goodies, but also got the chance to open for metal legend Yngwie Malmsteen. Watch this space for forthcoming competitions including the ‘Win a signed Brian May Guitar’ competition, the ‘Win a signed Joe Satriani Ibanez’ competition, and of course the fantastic Guitar Idol 2009.

2009 Guitar Idol final - Exclusive video footage

The Guitar Idol 2009 live final was broadcast exclusively as a webcast on our website as Licklibrary's coverage gave users the opportunity to participate in not only watching the live final but a unique chance to vote and help decide the winner. Thousands registered and voted and alongside the judges helped crown Jack Thammarat as this year's winner. You can now watch all the high quality videos online and for FREE. When you're done why not contribute to the show further by commenting on the performances on the new Guitar Idol Channel page.

We hope you enjoy the performances and who knows, this time next year it could well be you up there!

Jack’s a winner!

After a fiercely competitive final with some amazing performances by all twelve finalists, Jack impressed both the in-house judges and online voters with his performance of his track 'On The Way' to become the overall winner of this year's competition. Jack walked away with a PRS custom 24, a Marshall JVM stack and a £3000 custom guitar made by Rob Williams Guitars.

Steve Vai Competion Winner

A Steve Vai JEM guitar worth £1,800, signed by Steve Vai himself, was won by Muris Varajic from Sarajevo, with his entry ‘Jamming In Space’. He is pictured here collecting his prize at the Licklibrary demonstration area at the London Guitar Show this June. Check out his entry by clicking on the video link below

Winner of the Steve Vai Competition, Muris Varajic,

"Muris receives his Steve Vai JEM guitar from LickLibrary's Stuart Bull and Kim Waller."

Taking into account the votes submitted by our members, judges Kim Waller, Stuart Bull and Danny Gill, along with all the LickLibrary staff were very impressed with the wide range of high quality submissions and found it decidedly difficult to agree upon a winner once all the entries had been whittled down to a final 10.

After much debate and with Lavaman’s ‘Back To Earth’ being close second, it was agreed by all that Muris’ video was more in the ‘spirit’ of the competition itself and therefore deserved the top prize.

Well done and a massive thanks to all of you who took part in this competition. Keep your eyes peeled for more chances to win other prizes later in the year!
