Hi Kabel
If playing guitar makes you happy that's all that matters.
As far as ear training: it is important and it does take time. Start by singing notes as you play. Check out some ear training software.
Knowing some theory can help to put things in context as well.

It all comes down to experience. Playing with other musicians is the best teacher.
