Nikki Sixx diary blows lid on addiction
Proving that today's hellraisers still have a lot to learn about true rock and roll behaviour, Mötley Crüe's Nikki Sixx is publishing The Heroin Diaries, a no-holds barred account of a drug crazed year in the mid-eighties. As one of the hardest-living rock stars ever, the diary is likely to prove shocking to say the least.

Co-written by Guardian and Q scribe Ian Gittins, The Heroin Diaries is based on Sixx's journal entries beginning Christmas 1986 where he documented the tumultuous relationship he had with heroin and the Crüe, then at the height of their fame. But Crüe fans shouldn't expect a glamorous tale of rock and roll excess - Sixx's intention in writing the book was to give a true account of the extremes of addiction, the effect it had on his loved ones and the eventual struggle of recovery.

Accordingly, a portion of the proceeds from the book will go to Sixx's charity Running Wild In The Night, a fundraising initiative for Covenant House California, which helps to rescue young people from the streets.

Following the book's release, Sixx will also put out Heroin Diaries: The Soundtrack in September. Described as "the dark audio companion to Sixx's diary", the album will be written and produced by Sixx, James Michael and DJ Ashba under the moniker Sixx:A.M.

Sixx fans can find out more at www.myspace.com/heroindiaries including a preview of the firstsingle from Heroin Diaries: The Soundtrack, titled Life is Beautiful.
