Re-make of Beatles' “Yellow Submarine" movie!
Thu, 20 Aug 2009
It has come to light that prolific film-maker Robert Zemeckis is currently holding talks with Disney and Apple, to re-make the 1968 classic Beatles Movie "Yellow Submarine!"
The Director of pictures as far afield as “Beowulf” and “Back to The Future,” is said to have indicated using the same performance capture footage used on Beowulf and The Polar Express in the new 3D version of the animated original.
The original picture saw cartoon versions of The Fab Four on their adventure with Captain Fred to save Pepperland from The Blue Meanies.
While Disney has not yet apparently secured the rights to the music, which included the unforgettable: With a Little Help from My Friends, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, All You Need Is Love, and of course, Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds. It also contained original orchestral pieces by George Martin, as well as the orchestral crescendo from A Day In The Life, and a host of Beatles classics. The Music for the Film won Best Original Score at the 1970 Grammy’s.
The Beatles themselves are not actually seen in the film until the end, when they make a live-action cameo, and were even voiced by actors! Only their singing voices remained the same.
The Beatles were discouraged in fulfilling their 3-Film contract with United Artists, after disastrous receptions of their 2nd picture “Help!” and the “Magical Mystery Tour” TV Special. Due to their lack of participation in Yellow Submarine, U.A decided that they had not fulfilled their contractual duties, and “Let It Be” would stand to be their 3rd Picture.
We will update when a concrete decision has been made on whether the re-make will go ahead or not.
