Oasis split
Tue, 01 Sep 2009
After a week of speculation and reaffirmation of the bands solidity, Noel Gallagher sensationally quit Manchester rock ‘n roll outfit Oasis at the weekend. With such a volatile relationship as that of the Gallagher brothers, fans could be forgiven for taking any talk of a split with a pinch of salt. However, Noel confirmed that he would no longer work with brother Liam, writing to the bands website on Saturday (Aug 29th.)
Now 15 years since the group’s hugely successful debut album “Definitely Maybe” catapulted the young band to stardom, it would seem that the ride is now over for Oasis. After 7 studio albums, 15 NME awards, 5 BRIT’s, and 4 MTV Europe awards, Noel wrote that “verbal and violent intimidation towards me, my family, friends and comrades has become intolerable.”
It is no secret that the relationship between the Gallagher brothers had hit an all time low. As LickLibrary reported Fri August 21st, Liam and Noel were no longer travelling together, and Liam had told the NME, “The only time I see him (Noel) is on stage. For the first time in my life I haven’t got a f**king clue what’s going on with Oasis.”
Noel apologised to Oasis fans for the band pulling out of their headline slot at V Festival in Essex, UK and their performance at the Rock En Seine show in Paris, France, as well as concerts that were lined up for Milan, Italy and Konstanz, Germany.
Fans of the band may still hold out some hope that the story is not yet over, as a spokeswoman for Oasis issued a statement through the BBC, saying “I expect in the next couple of days a decision will be made as to how to continue, or if they continue.”
Only yesterday (August 31st) KROQ, TripleJ and XFM conducted an international poll to name the No.1 song of all time, which saw Oasis come top of the list. “Live Forever” was named the best song ever, with The Killers coming 2nd with “Mr Brightside” and Oasis picking up the 3rd and 4th spots with “Don’t Look Back in Anger” and “Wonderwall” respectively. The poll undertaken in Britain, Australia and The USA shows how huge Oasis fan-base spread, and could be considered as a reflection of their fans’ dedication.
Noel Gallagher finished his parting statement by writing: “In closing, I would like to thank all the Oasis fans all over the world. The last 18 years have been truly, truly amazing. A dream come true. I take with me glorious memories. Now if you’ll excuse me I have a family and football team to indulge. I’ll see you somewhere down the road. It’s been a f**king pleasure. Thanks very much. Goodbye. NG.”
When the remaining band members come to a decision, we will update you.
