Police re-examine the death of The Rolling Stones former guitarist Brian Jones
Tue, 01 Sep 2009
As LickLibrary previously reported, The Rolling Stones were recently exposed in a leaked documentary that they had wanted to suppress. Robert Frank’s 1972 film had been a candid look at life on the road with the Stones, and was subsequently banned from public performance unless the director himself was present.
Now it has been reported that Police will re-examine the death of guitarist Brian Jones in 1969. Jones was found dead in a swimming pool in Hartfield, East Sussex, UK. Originally coroners concluded that Jones had drowned while under the influence of drugs and alcohol, and stated “death by misadventure” as Jones’ cause of death.
Rumours have long been rife around the circumstances of Jones’ death. His girlfriend at the time of his death, Anna Wohlin, claimed in 1999 that Brian Jones had been murdered by a builder who was working on the house at the time. It has been alleged that builder Frank Thorogood (who was last to see Brian Jones alive) confessed to the murder on his deathbed, telling Tom Keylock, a former Stones driver, “It was me that did Brian. I just finally snapped.” Keylock himself passed away last month.
Police are re-examining the case after 600 pages of documents were produced by an investigative journalist named Steve Jones. The journalist had spoken to Janet Lawson, who discovered the body. She had informed Steve Jones, that she witnessed Thorogood and the former Stones guitarist messing around in the pool, before Thorogood returned to the house shaking badly, and she discovered Brian’s body.
The Police have issued a statement, saying that it is too early to say whether a fresh investigation will get underway, and until the documentation is reviewed, they cannot comment as to what the outcome will be.Related Material:
