Green Day stormed to win 3 awards at last night’s MTV Video Music Awards at Radio City Music Hall, New York, and rocked the crowd with a live rendition of East Jesus Nowhere.
Green Day have received much critical acclaim over recent years, predominantly for their 2004 album American Idiot. Having won or been nominated for virtually every award going between the Rock and Pop genres, Green Day were back to form last night to perform East Jesus Nowhere to a huge reception, and invited fans to join them on stage.
The Video that had caused such a surge of commendation was for 21 Guns, which won Best Rock Video, Best Cinematography, and Best Direction. This saw them as joint top winners of the night, and 21 Guns undoubtedly MTV’s most respected video of the year.
Green Day’s latest album, 21st Century Breakdown, has been critically acclaimed by artists such as Krist Noveselic (Nirvana,) who told Seattle weekly: “Green Day is a great band, and that is what makes Breakdown a great record.” He went on to finish by claiming that Green Day could “…carry the flag of rock and roll high into the 21st Century”
Undeniably one of the most important bands of the late 20th Century, it would appear the band are riding the crest of a wave of success, that could rise long into the future.
