Slayer to play a host of UK dates in support of their forthcoming album, World Painted Blood

Mon, 14 Sep 2009

As the November 2nd release of Slayer’s latest offering, World Painted Blood, draws ever-near, the band have announced that they will play a host of UK dates in support of the record. Slayer’s forthcoming 11th album had been heavily rumoured to be the beginning of the end, for the 28-year old thrash group. Tom Araya (Bassist and Vocalist) has announced that World Painted Blood would be the first in a trilogy of albums that would see the band exit the realms of thrash metal for good.

Slayer had previously announced their next tour dates for the late autumn, beginning in New Zealand in October. Having just finished a tour across the US in August, the band had co-headlined the Mayhem Festival with Marylin Manson.  But now UK fans can rest assured that amid much speculation, Slayer will be going nowhere for a while.  Kerry King believes they’ll just keep on going until one of them decides to call it a day, and The World Painted Blood album would imply that there is little chance of that - for the time being at least.

The band had spent more time together throughout the writing process, and not so much time rehearsing. Greg Fidelman (who produced Worl Painted Blood under Rick Rubin) said that this meant “the songs were still new and fresh.”

Fidelman was recommended to undertake the project by Rick Rubin, who acted as Executive Producer. He has previously worked with those other recent Rubin collaborators Metallica, who join Slayer in the “Thrash Big Four.” Slayer were one of the so called “big four” thrash bands, which helped kick off the revolution that exploded out of the US in the early 1980’s, along with Metallica Anthrax and Megadeth.

World Painted Blood is released in the UK and Europe on Nov 2nd, and in the US Nov 3rd.
