Guthrie Govan collaborating with East London MC, Dizzee Rascal

Wed, 23 Sep 2009

Guthrie Govan and The Young Punx are to become East London rapper Dizzee Rascal’s full time live backing band! Anyone who witnessed the performance of “Bonkers” on Later with Jools Holland will have noticed that LickLibrary favourite Guthrie was providing the alternative sounding slide guitar throughout the performance, and this is neither a first, nor a last for the guitar virtuoso.

Bloggers were manic last Thursday (Sep 17th), when Dizzee Rascal went to the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge to perform tracks from his recently released album, “Tongue N Cheek.” After calls of “Guthrie” were heard over the mic, the ever-versatile Govan provided an acoustic version of summer Dizzee Rascal release, “Holiday,” before performing the slide guitar rendition of No.1 hit “Bonkers.”

It was announced that Govan and The Young Punx had been collaborating with Dizzee Rascal on his new album, providing instrumentation on no less than four of Dizzee’s new songs. Many are now questioning whether it was actually Guthrie performing with the MC on last night’s show, as an air of disbelief surrounds the varied pairing of a Blues / Rock guitarist and a Grime MC.

LickLibrary can confirm that Guthrie Govan and Dizzee Rascal have been, and are still working together. It has been announced by Dizzee Rascal that Guthrie and The Young Punx will be providing live backing for forthcoming performances, and this looks set to last indefinitely, with their next stop at the BBC Electric Proms, Oct 21st.
