Guns and Roses hit with million dollar lawsuit
Wed, 07 Oct 2009
Last week Licklibrary favourites Guns and Roses were hit with a $1million lawsuit. Legal papers claim that the track titled Riad N' the Bedouins featuring on the 'Chinese Democracy' album contained illegally copied samples from 2 of the German electronic musicians Ulrich Schnauss records.
The claim evolves around the ambient sound heard at the start of the track, although the band have vigoursly denied these claims, this seems a case that could be set to run and run as Record labels Independiente and Domino would be seeking $1 million in damages. Guns and Roses, speaking via their Manager Irving Azoff said "The band believed when the record came out and still believes there are no unauthorised samples on the track"
In response to Azoff's comment Schnauss's attrney responded by disagreeing telling Rollingstone.com "The band and the record label are responsible for copyright infringement, there is no paper trail authourizing the use of these songs".
As the norm Licklibrary will be playing close attention to this story as it continues to gather pace.
