Steven Tyler quits Aerosmith?

Mon, 09 Nov 2009

This image has been reduced in size - click here to view full sizeJoe Perry has announced that he believes Steven Tyler has left the band but had to find out through the internet. He has reportedly said “Steven quit as far as I can tell. I don’t know any more than you do about it. I got off the plane two nights ago. I saw online that Steven said that he was going to leave the band. I don’t know for how long, indefinitely or whatever. Other than that, I don’t know.”

He also told the Las Vegas Sun that they haven’t been in contact for months and that Steven had hung up on him last time he had tried to call him and that "Obviously, he hasn't been giving 100% for a long time, frankly, the last few months I've been wanting not to rock the boat. I don't want him cancelling any more gigs. We really wanted to do these last four. We didn't want to call him out or get him pissed off, for whatever reason. So we just let things lie."

The news comes after Joe Perry attended the Classic Rock Awards in London last week to accept the classic album award for Aerosmith’s 1976 album ‘Rocks’ on behalf of the band and when asked about his memories from recording he fondly recalled, "I remember we taped tambourines to Steven Tyler's cowboy boots and had him stomp on pieces of plywood to get that sound."

After 40 years together as a band the remaining members are confident there’s a future still together Guitarist Brad Whitford who has also commented on the split, “Nobody could replace Steven or imitate him, he’s one of a kind. But if somebody was willing to do it and the chemistry was right, why not?”

The band is scheduled to meet this week to discuss the future of Aerosmith without Steven Tyler.
