U2 to headline Glastonbury, Glastonbury 2010 wins Best Major Festival award

Confirmed today by the festivals official website www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk, Irish rockers U2 will headline the Pyramid Stage on Friday night at Glastonbury 2010.
After years of rumours and speculation this will be the first time that U2 have played the festival. Festival boss Michael Eavis has said, Michael Eavis: "The 26-year-old rumour has finally come true. At last, the biggest band in the world are going to play the best festival in the world! Nothing could be better for our 40th anniversary party. And there are even more surprises in the pipeline..."
Last week, Glastonbury Festival won the Best Major Festival award at the UK Festival Awards in London, in which also Blur's Sunday night headline set was voted Best Headline Performance.
U2 will be flying in for the festival during the middle of their scheduled US tour for their opening night slot as confirmed by U2's website this morning.
The rest of the line up is yet to be announced. Tickets for the festival reportedly sold out within 12 hours of them going onsale in October 2009.
