Beatlemania returns
Thu, 10 Sep 2009
In 1962/3, Beatlemania hit the UK and Europe, as the “Fab Four” toured the region to promote their releases of “Please Please Me” “I Want to Hold Your Hand” and “From Me to You”. As the USA looked on in amazement, it wasn’t long before the, now legendary group, took over the world.
Cut to the present day, and it seems that Beatlemania is bac0k. The digital re-issue of The Beatles’ entire back-catalogue, in both Stereo, and in their more original-sounding Mono, has been causing a resurgence in the band’s huge popularity, as fans across the world, once again went crazy for the Beatles. The entire collection has been digitally re-mastered, tweaked and cleaned up to make it sound as fresh as ever, almost 40 years after the band split up!
Yesterday saw thousands of Beatles fans from the USA to the UK going mad for the group all over again. The complete box-set of the albums, although priced at £170, sold out rapidly in record stores on both sides of the Atlantic, and the appearance of their own Rock Band video-game is sure to have inspired interest from a generation of younger fans.
It is said that due to the continuing slump in C.D sales, such a huge undertaking is not without its ulterior motives. The waning interest in hard-copy music, and free downloads being circulated more prolifically by the day, has meant that record label bosses across the world are hoping that this kind of project will provide a much needed boost in C.D sales.
The Beatles’ career was incomparably successful during their time, and has lasted throughout the 39 years since their split. The 1970 move by Paul McCartney to leave the group and file a law-suit to have the Beatles dissolved came after Phil Spector’s “Wall of Sound” production on the band’s final album, “Let it Be” which McCartney had objected to throughout.
The entire back-catalogue is available now.
