Fri, 18 Sep 2009
Mick jones and Topper Headon of The Clash have got together for their first recording session in 27 years! They have recorded a new version of The Clash classic “Jail Guitar Doors” for charity, and the new recording features Billy Bragg and 4 ex-prison inmates.
The Jail Guitar Doors charity – set up by Billy Bragg – aims to help offenders through the musical medium. Topper Headon, drummer for The Clash, who had previously been incarcerated for Drug offences, was famously kicked out of the band in 1982 due to his heroin addiction.
He said “When I was in prison myself, many years ago, I was luck enough to have access to a guitar, which belonged to the prison vicar! I know how much it helped me get through it.”
The recording session was filmed for a forthcoming documentary entitled “Breaking Rocks” which details the Jail Guitar Doors charity’s work, and will be premiered at the Raindance film festival in October.
