10 more years of unreleased Hendrix

Tue, 22 Sep 2009

The sister of guitar legend Jimi Hendrix has promised fans that there is still another 10 years worth of unreleased material which is set to be launched every 12-18 months over the next decade.

Just after the 39th anniversary of Jimi Hendrix’s tragic death, fans of the Guitar-God can rest assured that a wealth of Hendrix material is still as-yet unheard. Stored in Los Angeles and New York, Janie Hendrix (Jimi’s sister) has said publicly that the tapes - which also contain video – are stored in temperature controlled vaults and are all duplicated so as to provide insurance “in the event of something catastrophic happening.”

Since the demise of Jimi Hendrix, on Sep 18th 1970, there have been a multitude of compilations, studio albums, boxed-sets, live albums and DVD’s that have been released, and an abundance of previously un-released material unearthed. This has helped to keep the legendary guitarist’s reputation towering over music land, with very few denying that Hendrix is one of the greatest guitarists of all time.

Along with these posthumous releases, Hendrix’ name has been synonymous with the Fender Stratocaster, however is has been announced that Jamie Hendrix is currently in talks with Gibson, over a new set of Hendrix signature model guitars. Said to include the famous “flying V” design, there are “a whole line of Jimi-inspired instruments” lined up.

With a career which saw Hendrix release only 4 albums over 3 years, 1 of these being a live album with Band of Gypsys, it may surprise some just how prolific Jimi still remains, not to mention how much material there has been to uncover. Jamie Hendrix tells us that we will be listening to new Jimi Hendrix records until the 50th anniversary of his demise.

LickLibrary are confident that his legend will live on much longer than that, as one of, if not the greatest Guitar-God of all time…
