Slash brings in big guns for new solo record - Grohl & McKagan join Ozzy & Flea on the roster

As Velvet Revolver continue in their ever-lengthening hiatus, seemingly searching in vain for a new vocalist, Slash continues his solo project – and has drafted some big names into the studio.
As LickLibrary discussed last month, Velvet Revolver seem to have made no progress in finding a new vocalist. Since the sensational sacking of Scott Weiland in March ’08, there have been numerous suggestions and rumours as to who would take Weiland’s place. So far no-one has been named officially.
With Velvet Revolver on hold indefinitely, Slash has been in the studio working on Slash & Friends, his forthcoming solo effort. Dave Grohl was in the studio with the guitar-legend only yesterday, as Slash posted to his twitter account; “Great jamming w/Duff & Grohl tonight, the track is a killer instrumental, very heavy.”
Slash had previously tweeted about his forthcoming Slash & Friends event at Mirage, Las Vegas, which will see him jamming with (amongst a host of others) Aerosmith’s Joe Perry. As LickLibrary previously reported, Perry had recently been having concerns over the future of Aerosmith. Similarly to Slash, he was also working on the solo side of his career, before it was announced Aerosmith would play two live dates next month (Oct), the first since Steve Tyler’s injury.
For the Slash & Friends album, the former Guns n Roses guitarist recruited Chris Chaney on bass, formerly of Jane’s Addiction, and Josh Freese of Nine Inch Nails on drums. However with so much respect throughout the music-world, Slash has not stopped hiring there, including bass-work from Flea as well as vocals from Ozzy Osbourne, Avenged Sevenfold’s M. Shadows, Soundgarden / Audioslave’s Chris Cornell, and rock-veteran Alice Cooper.
Due for release in 2010, Slash & Friends is set to be a wide-ranging album featuring a range of rock heavyweights. From Ronnie Wood to Iggy Pop, it would seem that Slash only has room for the biggest and best on the imminent Slash & Friends album.
LickLibrary will keep you updated on the impending release of Slash & Friends, as well as the state of Velvet Revolver.
