Jeff Beck & Eric Clapton to play 2010 London gig

Two of LickLibrary's favourite featured artists, two of the most celebrated guitarists in history, are set to re-create their joint performance in Japan earlier this year, with a one off performance in London due for Feb 2010!

Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck have seldom played together over the years. In 1965, Jeff Beck joined The Yardbirds, playing live with the band for the first time just two days after Clapton announced his departure. This has been somewhat frustrating for fans, as Beck and Clapton are inextricably linked in their status as guitar legends, although somewhat tenuously as recording / performing artists.

Recently however, Beck and Clapton joined up to perform together in Japan. Previously, the guitar-greats had only jammed together for fundraisers, and at the odd festival. In February this year (2009), they took to the stage together for real, playing a set of blues / rock songs that confirmed their status’ throughout the music world. Taking both of their bands to Saitama, Japan, they each played separate sets, before Jeff Beck joined Eric Clapton on stage to perform seven songs live.

“We had so much fun in Japan that it seemed natural to play together again” said Clapton of the forthcoming show. “I’ve always considered Jeff Beck to be one of the finest guitar players around. He’s a friend, a great guy, and a truly gifted musician.”

Should the Japan show be anything to go by, fans can expect much competition for tickets to see the performance. The announcement of the Japanese dates launched a worldwide frenzy, and the rush for tickets was immense.

With only one date in London planned, LickLibrary expects an extremely quick sell-out of the O2 Arena’s 20,000 capacity.
Jeff Beck said he was “looking forward to 2010” as the duo “had a blast” in Japan. LickLibrary had the pleasure of attending an intimate Jeff Beck concert on Monday night, before which, the guitar legend had given a masterclass and Q and A session for a select few.

Those lucky enough to get tickets for the 2010 Beck / Clapton show can expect very similar to the Saitama gigs. The pair will both play separate sets with their respective bands, before joining on stage to play together. However, the press release for the upcoming sensation, promises that the joint performance will be a longer one than that of Japan.
