Guitar Hero makers confirm resurrection of Kurt Cobain!

While games such as Guitar Hero can cause some debate and controversy from those of us who enjoy playing the real thing, the game's popularity among the young, and the not so young, cannot be ignored. Today, as the September 1st release date of Guitar Hero's 5th edition looms, the makers announce that none other than the legendary Kurt Cobain will be making an appearance.

Arctic Monkeys and Them Crooked Vultures rock Brixton!

The hype was once again lived up to last night, as 2 of the most talked about bands in rock music today, shared the limelight at Brixton's O2 Academy, London. The arctic Monkeys had billed the elusive Queens of the Stone Age/Led Zeppelin/Foo Fighters supergroup as "very special guests" for their “Humbug” album release gig / Reading Festival warm up show.

Them Crooked Vultures to make live UK debut tonight?

The Who release new material next year, Pete Townsend confirms he is writing new musical

The Who are going to release a new recording next year, as Pete Townsend continues work on his new musical entitled “Floss.” 
 
Writing to his blog on Monday (24th August) Pete Townsend has revealed that while Roger Daltrey “exercises his ageing vocal chords” by going on a 2-month solo tour across the US from October, Townsend himself will be setting to work on his new musical endeavour.

Black Sabbath announce deluxe re-releases for September

Heavy Metal legends Black Sabbath are set to release 5 re-mastered classic albums as deluxe edition digi-packs for September 21st! 
 
The news comes soon after previous re-issued deluxe versions of “Black Sabbath” “Paranoid” and “Master of Reality” were released, and this 5 album special re-release will see Black Sabbath’s works between 1972 and 1978 get a make-over.

Kiss Alive 35 tour announced

Kiss have released details of their 35th anniversary tour which will see the veteran group rock their way across North America between September and December. Coming just in time for the Wal-Mart-exclusive release of their new album “Sonic Boom,” Kiss are promising fans no less than a spectacular live experience, and have even given audiences an insight into their set-list.

Zakk Wylde treated for blood clot

Zakk Wylde was admitted to hospital following a Black Label Society gig in Montana, USA last week. He is said to have suffered from a blood clot, and has been receiving treatment over the past week or so. 
 
According to Zakk’s twitter account, he intends to keep touring with Black Label Society in 2009, hitting South America in December.

Oasis pull out of headline slot at V

Oasis sensationally pulled out of their headline slot at V in Chelmsford on Sunday, due to Liam Gallagher suffering from viral laryngitis. Snow Patrol filled in, on a festival which did not seem to live up to its hype. 
 
Boos echoed around the Essex venue on Sunday, and T-Shirts degrading Oasis were printed at the last minute, to a sell-out reception from disgruntled festival-goers.

Banned Rolling Stones documentary surfaces on the net

It has been revealed that Robert Frank’s 1972 documentary on the Rolling Stones USA tour, has been broadcast over the internet via a renegade website, despite it’s ban by the ‘Stones themselves! 
 
The legendary documentary was entitled “C**ksucker Blues” after an unreleased Mick Jagger song of the same name, and saw Frank travel with the band and their entourage, with various members and hangers-on being given cameras to shoot footage for themselves.

V-Fest begins tomorrow with Oasis still at war!

Oasis have never exactly been the most stable of bands when it comes to the brothers’ Gallagher and their famous bust-ups. But recently it would seem that the relationship between front-men Liam and Noel has hit an all time low. 
 
Apparently leaving Noel in tears (according to Liam) a row at an airport over their supporting act led to the sibling rivals no longer travelling with each other! Liam recently told NME “The only time I see him is on stage. For the first time in my life I haven’t got a f**king clue what’s going on with Oasis.”

Re-make of Beatles' “Yellow Submarine" movie!

It has come to light that prolific film-maker Robert Zemeckis is currently holding talks with Disney and Apple, to re-make the 1968 classic Beatles Movie "Yellow Submarine!" 
The Director of pictures as far afield as “Beowulf” and “Back to The Future,” is said to have indicated using the same performance capture footage used on Beowulf and The Polar Express in the new 3D version of the animated original. 
 
The original picture saw cartoon versions of The Fab Four on their adventure with Captain Fred to save Pepperland from The Blue Meanies.

Them Crooked Vultures rock Amsterdam and set to play UK in Aug!

Them Crooked Cultures fulfilled all expectation last night as they rocked Amsterdam’s Melkweg, a deserted dairy factory saved by a Dutch Theatre group in the heart of the city. And now it has been stated that the Foo Fighters / Queens of The Stone Age / Led Zeppelin Supergroup will play their first UK gig on August 24th at London’s Islington Academy! 
The Amsterdam show last night is being hailed by bloggers and amateur reviewers across the Internet as a triumphant introduction to what Them Crooked Vultures have in store! Their sound being a varied one, the accomplished musicianship of the new Supergroup was never in question, and it would seem they did not stray far from the original set-list of their debut show in Chicago’s Metro club, USA.

Tommy Lee of Motley Crue replaced for Crue-Fest dates due to Injury

Motley Crue Drummer Tommy Lee has been replaced by the Band for upcoming Crue Fest 2 shows! Following the revelation of Steve Tyler's on-stage accident earlier this month, Motley Crue have not decided to postpone any dates, and have instead enlisted the help of Morgan Rose, Drummer with Sevendust. 
 
The injury was apparently sustained to Lee as he was “playing with sparklers.” He told the crowd at Clarkston, Michigan’s DTE Energy Theatre, “I Suck! I was having fun and burned myself.”

LickLibrary pays tribute to Les Paul

The World of Guitar has been mourning the loss, and celebrating the life of Les Paul since his death on August 13th due to complications with pneumonia. And as such a pioneer, Musicians of all kinds, have much to thank Les Paul for. He was born Lester William Polsfuss, in Wisoncsin USA, 1914, to George and Evelyn Polsfuss. His parents divorced during his childhood, and his mother simplified their family name to Polfuss. It was later that Les Paul became Lester's stage name, and the name that would be known throughout the world.

Them Crooked Vultures have firmly implanted themselves into the Rock consciousness over the past few weeks, and as LickLibrary have reported, they recently Rocked Club Metro, Chicago for their post Lollapalooza live debut! 
 
Now it seems that after releasing a song-teaser to the masses via an internet viral, Dave Grohl, Josh Homme, and John Paul Jones' mysterious Supergroup could be set to play at Reading and Leeds festivals next weekend (28-30 Aug).

Sub-Pop to release 20th anniversary re-Issue of Nirvana debut Bleach!

Apparently intended for a Summer '09 release, the 20th Anniversary edition of Nirvana's uncompromising debut album, Bleach has now been announced by Sub-Pop for release on November 3rd. Originally intended to coincide with the 1989 release date of June 15th, the reissue has been revisited by Jack Endino, producer of the album that pushed Nirvana into the limelight 20 years ago.
