Slayer cancel American Carnage tour
Thu, 07 Jan 2010
In November Slayer and Megadeth announced a co-headlining 'American Carnage' tour confirming Slayer's Tom Araya's was recovering well from his back problems after emergency surgery caused them to cancel their European tour in late 2009.
Today, Slayer confirmed on their website that the tour has been cancelled for Tom Araya to undergo surgery that is scheduled for the end of January, and have cancelled all tour plans through to April 2010.
"Tom gave various medical treatments more than a fair shot," Rick Sales, Slayer's manager explains, "but they just haven't handled the problem, so he's biting the bullet and is scheduled for back surgery at the end of this month."Good news for Megadeth and Slayer fans is though that they are working hard to reschedule the dates for later this year and urge fans to keep their tickets safe.
Tom Araya's surgery, an Anterior Cervical Discectomy with Fusion, is said to be a relatively routine procedure and the recovery rate is excellent.
The bands manager then added, "As unfortunate as this is for so many people - the Megadeth and Testament camps, the concerts' promoters, and, of course, the fans - Tom's health is the number one priority, and this has to happen."We send our best wishes to Tom and hope he gets back to his usual stage antics soon.
