Dream Theaters Mike Portnoy talks about working with Avenged Sevenfold
Thu, 18 Feb 2010
As earlier mentioned, Avenged Sevenfold confirmed Jimmy Sullivan's favourite drummer, Dream Theater's Mike Portnoy will be recording on behalf of The Rev on the new album in the studio.
Mike Portnoy posted on his website forum this morning about working with Avenged Sevenfold, and wants the A7X fans to know he is not trying to take Jimmy's place or fill his shoes.
"I want their fans to realize that I'm not trying to step into or fill The Rev's shoes...I'm just merely lacing em up for him! "From his Twitter account he pointed followers to his forum post about going into the studio with Avenged Sevenfold explaining he would have been happy to help the band out even under normal circumstances, and he didn't hesitate to say yes.
"Even under normal circumstances, I would've been happy to help the guys out in any way I could as I think Avenged Sevenfold are a great band...but under these incredibly sad and tragic circumstances, I must say I am truly honored to have been asked to play with them...and I didn't even have to think twice about saying yes. "His words about the Avenged Sevenfold family echo that of many around the world, he goes on to say, "These guys are a true family and it is an incredibly emotional experience to be here with them for the first time without their lost brother. But they have welcomed me into the family with open arms and there's a real excitement to make the record they had set out to make.."Mike feels honoured to be able to participate and keep Jimmy's drumparts the way The Rev would have recorded them.
Good luck to Mike and Avenged Sevenfold.
