Avenged Sevenfold confirm Mike Portnoy as drummer for upcoming tour

This image has been reduced in size - click here to view full sizeLast night Mike Portnoy was confirmed to be joining Avenged Sevenfold for their upcoming Rockstar Uproar tour in late summer 2010.

Zacky Vengeance, guitarist for A7X made an announcement on the bands website to confirm that the Dream Theater drummer that, who has recently helped them record their new album (due out late July) "Mike Portnoy will indeed be helping us on the upcoming UPROAR tour later this year."  See more from Zacky V by clicking here.

Mike Portnoy followed up on his website with an official statement to show his excitement to join them, and named himself the band's "Rebound drummer"

"I am happy to say that the timing worked out perfectly that my touring cycle with Dream Theater (and Transatlantic) was coming to an end just as A7X's was scheduled begin!" Portnoy says before following up with "You can look at me like the band's "rebound drummer" to buy them some time until they are comfortable and ready to make a commitment to somebody new for full-time relationship in their future!"

You can catch Mike Portnoy on tour in Europe now with Transatlantic, throughout the summer with Dream Theater as special guests for Iron Maiden and with Avenged Sevenfold on all their 2010 appearances.
