Avenged Sevenfold take The Rev's favourite drummer to the studio to help finish album

This image has been reduced in size - click here to view full sizeConfirmed by the band yesterday and in an official press release, Avenged Sevenfold have named Dream Theaters Mike Portnoy as the drummer who will record on The Rev's behalf.

""Even though it will never be the same without our brother by our side, his essence lives in our hearts and through the music he helped create." The band say on their website. 

Although this will be a very difficult time for the band, their family and its fans, it brings some comfort to know that Jimmy's amazing gift he gave to the world will go on.  The band have said they are recording the album for the fans and Jimmy.  

"We asked Jimmy's all time favorite drummer Mike Portnoy to record on behalf of him. Mike said it would be an honor and without question that’s what Jim would have wanted. Its comforting to us that someone like Mike, who is undoubtedly revered as one of the best drummers in the world, held such respect and adoration for the Rev's abilities." Avenged Sevenfold said in a release late yesterday on their official website.  You can read the rest of the bands announcement here.

Mike Portnoy updated his Twitter once the news was out to let every know things were going great.  "Looks like its finally been announced: Yes I am layin down the love in the studio with my boys in Avenged Sevenfold! Going great so far...."Good luck to Avenged Sevenfold & Mike Portnoy.
