Andy first picked up the guitar when he was 12 years old and from that day forth has never looked back. Early influences included Guns n Roses, Extreme, Queen, Van Halen and Joe Satriani. "From the first time I heard 'Surfing With The Alien' I knew I wanted to shred, it just sounded so fun and cool to do," Andy says. His favourite bands and artists include Killswitch Engage, Dream Theater, Alterbridge, Nevermore, Zakk Wylde, Paul Gilbert, John Petrucci, Tony Macalpine, Andy Timmons and he'd love to meet Slash!
Portsmouth, UK born Andy studied music business, performance and technology at college before attending the Guitar Institute London, where he had the opportunity to play with Vinnie Moore. In 2004 he entered and won the Birmingham Guitar Hero competition, a national guitar event. Then in 2005 he entered and won a competition to meet Zakk Wylde by submitting a minute of his guitar playing, he even got to jam with the legendary guitarist.
Andy has taught thousands of budding shredders world-wide through his DVDs and tutorials, which have included artists: Metallica, Avenged Sevenfold, Dream Theater, Iron Maiden, Pantera, Dimebag Darrell, Zakk Wylde, Slayer, Motorhead, Joe Satriani, Trivium, Steve Vai, Bullet for my Valentine, Alterbridge and many more, and also has a number of technique tutorials, series and DVDs under his belt aswell including his popular Metal Edge range, the Full Shred Ahead series and the new Learn to Shred in 6 weeks!
In addition to his DVD's and tutorials, Andy has also released a number of solo albums, and is currently working on his next. He is also the lead guitarist for the band Sacred Mother Tongue, the band played Download Festival last year and this year have just been confirmed for this summer Sonisphere Festival in the UK.
Andy has a full endorsement with ESP Guitars and recently received a one of a kind prototype 7-string Horizon De-luxe from the Vice president. Andy Says his best guitar memory so far has been playing 100 feet in the air at an event at the top of the Alpha Tower in Birmingham.
