Aerosmith's Joe Perry & Steven Tyler talk pushing each other on stage
Wed, 08 Sep 2010
Last month Steven Tyler fell off stage in Canada after Joe Perry shoved him a little too hard, they've both now given their sides of the story.
On August 17th in Toronto Steven Tyler playfully bumped the guitarist during "Love In An Elevator" which was then returned, sending the frontman into the crowd. See this video here for a giggle. The video suggests that it may not have been accidental, although Joe Perry did help him back up on stage afterwards.
This year has seen the pair be less than friendly on and off towards each other, and there has been more tention since Steven Tyler had announced the possibility of becoming a judge on American Idol (perhaps Joe Perry isn't a fan of the show?)
Joe Perry later claimed he hadn't intented to push the frontman off the stage, "Joe wanted his fans to know he would never deliberately push Steven off the stage," a representative of the band told TMZ.com recently.
In seperate phone interviews by The Globe and Mail in Canada the duo reportedly told them:
"I had bumped into Joe. I kind of strafe him — that's what we do night after night. We've done it for 40 years. In return, he gave me a hit that I feel was a bit out of place. Facing forward, I was able to jump off and grab peoples' shoulders, and it was fine. I got right back up. I don't know what he was thinking. He's Joe Perry." Says Steven Tyler.
"If you watch the film, he backed into me hard. And I was also standing on the edge. All I did was brush against him. Basically he had a choice: He could have kept his balance and not gone into the audience, or he could have dropped in, which he did. None of it was planned — it's a contact sport. The week before, he hit me over the head with a mic stand. But did you read anything about that?" Says Joe Perry.
What's your theory?
Here's some more fanfootage of the 'push', its quite fun!
