Van Halen guitar on display at The Smithsonian museum

The Smithsonian National Museum of American History has acquired a guitar once owned and played by Eddie Van Halen.

The museum announced thion Monday that the "Frank 2" that was used during the Van Halen 2007-2008 North American Tour would be making itself a new home with them.

Brent Glass, museum director, says the guitar reflects Van Halen's innovation, Talent and influence. and will be a part of the museums instrument collection, bring it a more comtemporary appeal.

However currently there are reports that the guitar will not be available for public viewing.

Rumours are still circulating about a 2011 Van Halen album release, the current whispers are that the band are likely to be hitting the road in support of the new album this summer after an Australian radio station 'Triple M' said the band are booking dates for a tour down under for an album with an August release date.

Still no official dates or information have been released by the band on their management.
