This image has been reduced in size - click here to view full sizeRumours circulating Dream Theater's drum stool vacancy after Mike Portnoy left the band last year have suggested that Steve Vai's former drummer is set to take the job.

Mark Mangini is a legendary session drummer who holds 4 Guinness World Records for speed drumming.

VH1 host Eddie Trunk hosts a radio show "Friday Night Rocks" for New York's Q104.3 and recently took to his twitter to spread a little gossip.

"On the rock gossip wire I heard 2 reports today from reliable sources: Van Halen album is close to done and will come out this year. And that Mike Mangini will be the new drummer in Dream Theater and is in studio with them. Unconfirmed but likely to be announced soon."

If Mike Mangini is the drummer set to fill the enormous shoes of the incredible Mike Portnoy not just in his performance but in the eyes of the dedicated Dream Theater fans who have been speculating this rumour for some time on the bands official forums.

Please note this rumour is not confirmed by the band or their management.

Stay tuned for our next issue of iDrum Magazine which will feature an interview with the incredible Mike Portnoy as he toured with Avenged Sevenfold in the UK last winter. www.idrummag.com
