Metallica to play Festival d'ete de Quebec
Thu, 21 Apr 2011
Metallica are the latest act to put their name to the Festival d'ete de Quebec, or Quebec City Summer Festival, according to the festival's official website.
The festival has been running annually since 1966 and is organised by groups of
businesspersons and artists of Quebec City in order to show the artistic, economic, and touristic potential of the region. The 44th edition is set to take place on July 7th - 17th in La Belle Province.
"This is a feat we've been dreaming of," the festival's programming director Dominique Goulet said in a statement on Wednesday, April 20. "This has got to be the band that we get the most requests for! For years, Festival fans have been asking us for Metallica and we were finally able to line up their free dates with our schedule."
In September 2009, Metallica frontman James Hetfield told a Quebec City journalist that a show on the Plains of Abraham was definitely one of their priorities. "It’s on our ‘to do list’," he said at the time.
Metallica are set to play the huge Bell stage overlooking the Plains of Abraham on Saturday July 16th along with Joe Satriani and Dance Laury Dance. Other acts confirmed to play this historic site on separate dates are Elton John, The Black Keys, Cage The Elephant, Girl Talk and Thomas Fersen. The Canadian heritage site was the site of the decisive battle between French and British imperial armies in 1759.
