New Pixies material could be on the cards

Tue, 03 May 2011

Since the reformation of Boston alt-rockers The Pixies in 2004, rumours regarding new material emanating from the Frank Black camp have steadfastly been dismissed. But this was also the case in the 11 years following the bands break up with regards to any sort of come back what so ever for the 'Where Is My Mind' and 'Hear Comes Your Man' hit makers.

It wasn't until Francis Black starting including an increasing amount of Pixies numbers in his sets with The Catholics as well as occasionally including Pixies lead guitarist Joey Santiago in his solo work that the likely hood of a reunion was ever going to happen.

Then, in 2004 after a series of meetings and low-key rehearsals the band, famously noted by Kurt Cobain as one of Nirvanas biggest influences, announced a full tour with tickets for the initial tour dates selling out within minutes, with London's Brixton Academy reporting the fastest selling of tickets in the venues 20 year history.

Up until now it was understood that the band would remain a strictly touring enterprise, with the exception of single "Bam Thwok" and their last studio album was released nearly 20 years ago. But, fans have bombarded them ever since with requests of new material with U2 front man Bono leading the charge.

According to guitarist Santiago Bono begged them to pen some new tracks, he said: "Bono even asked. He's like, 'Please make a record!'

"Goddamn, we can't leave that unturned. That would frustrate me. It would. I think we should do it. But it's up to everybody."

He added to website Spinner.com: "That talk about making a record will be in the forefront next because it'll be time, you know. It'll be time. We've definitely gelled as a unit and hopefully when we can all bury the hatchet - and we have - maybe we'll go in there and hope for the best."
