Rare Led Zeppelin t-shirt sells for record fee

Thu, 12 May 2011

An extremely rare Led Zeppelin t-shirt produced in
1979 in limited quantity has just sold for an eye watering $10,000, the largest sum ever paid for a vintage t shirt.

The t-shirt was made as a unique way to replace conventional back stage passes at one of Zeppelin's legendary Knebworth shows and was sold by retro clothes retailer Stormcrow Vintage.

The black and yellow garment, which has the words "back stage pass" underneath the Led Zeppelin text was reportedly bought from the company who printed it for $123,00.

Kyle Ermatinger, who is company director said of when he first purchased the t-shirt "At the time, I thought I may have overpaid, until I got back home, looked it up online and noticed it was ranked #1 as the rarest Zeppelin t-shirt."

Brave words quoted the vintage clothes dealer also saying "When I got the sale notification, my jaw hit the floor. Given this shirt may be one of the only ones in existence, the price tag is completely justifiable. It’s a rock relic, beyond rare. Admittedly, I still frequently pinch myself."

The only details of the buyer is that he is Australian and that he has also bought a second Led Zeppelin t-shirt in the same week as the rare back stage pass gem.
