Lost Rory Gallagher album to be released after 30 years

Fri, 13 May 2011

Rory Gallagher's lost studio album
'Notes From San Francisco' will finally
be released as a special 2-CD set on May 17th.

The album was first made in 1977 with famed American music producer Elliot Mazer. Gallagher and his band had just returned from a six-month world tour and started work on the album almost immediately. Mazer recalls the sessions grew "tense" as Gallagher thought the mixing process "too complicated" and by the end of January 1978, had shelved the whole record and broke up his band of the past five years.

But, now over 30 years on the historic studio album is about to be released through Eagle Rock.

Gallagher had been quoted in 1992 saying that he hoped the album would surface one day but only if it were remixed which it has been with the blessing of Rory's brother/manager Donal. But it's actually Donal's son Daniel who kick started the project after recovering the record from the Gallagher archive and begun the mixing process with his engineer.

Disc 1 will contain the much fabled "lost" album set to feature 9 tracks with an additional 3 bonus songs. Disc 2 is a blistering live album taken from four shows at San Francisco's The Old Waldorf in December 1979.
