Lou Reed & Metallica collaboration
Thu, 16 Jun 2011
Metallica and Velvet Underground legend Lou Reed have just finished recording an album together, according to Metallica.com
The collaboration first came about when the heavy metal godfathers and the elder statesman of art-rock first performed together at the 25th Anniversary of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame at Madison Square Garden in October 2009.
Then a few months ago Kirk Hammett hinted at a new Metallica project that was 'not really 100% a Metallica record.' It took some eagle eyed observers from the Bay Area of San Francisco, where the bands home studio is based, to put two and two together and figure out who and what the new 'project' entailed.
The band gush, "A true innovator and easily one of the most influential songwriters, musicians, and performers in rock music history, Lou's work with the Velvet Underground and as a solo artist has such an enduring quality that he has long been revered and respected by us and many of our peers."
It culminates into a ten track album that, in their own words, was lightning speed for a Metallica project and although the band are still unsure of a release date the recording process was officially wrapped up last week.
