Metallica & Lou Reed talk about new album
Fri, 17 Jun 2011
As reported, earlier this week Metallica revealed their secret recording projec
t to their fans on their website.
The project that was previously referred and hinted about a few months ago by guitarist Kirk Hammett as "not 100 percent Metallica", was revealed as a collaboration with none other than Lou Reed.
The announcement has received mixed reactions from both the fans and the press, neither quite sure what to make of the combination. The band performed with Lou Reed back in October 2009 at the 25th Anniversary of the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame and started to consider the idea of making a record together.
Speaking to Rolling Stone the Metal icons and musician/song-writer Lou Reed spoke about the upcoming release.
"I don’t think we’ve ever felt this free. There’s nothing that’s totally outside of the boundary for us, nothing that feels like ‘Oh, what happens if we go there?’ The strength of us," Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich gestures to Lou Reed, "Is it feels like we cannot land on a wrong place."
Reed describes it as "A marriage made in heaven. I knew it from the first day we played together: ‘Oh, man, this is perfection, right in front of me."
"It doesn’t feel like we’re his backup band. It feels like we’re a different band, in a situation we’ve never been in before." adds guitarist Kirk Hammett before bassist Robert Trujillo explains, "It’s making us a better band."
