Chad Smith talks new Red Hot Chili Peppers album

Fri, 24 Jun 2011

As Red Hot Chili Peppers prepare to release their tenth studio album, "I'm With You" at the end of August, drummer Chad Smith spoke to Artistdirect.com about the record.

The album also marks the first release featuring new guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, "We knew it was going to be quite different." the drummer exclaims when talking about going into the studio, "Having Josh was the big change. He did a great job and wrote great music with us. We couldn't have asked for a better person to play music with. "

"Everything has its place. We try to construct our songs so everything that needs to be heard gets to be heard. We play like a band. It's four guys in a room playing together. We don't build it from the ground up with machines and all of that kind of stuff. We play rock music. It's about catching a performance." He adds when talking about the music and energy in the band's music.

Chad Smith's other projects allow him to explore different musical styles, with his other band Chickenfoot, set to release a new record (but expected to tour without Smith due to his RHCP commitments this year) allows him to go down the classic rock route he grew up with, whilsts his Bombastic Meatbats (see video below from
iDrum Magazine) lets out his "jazzy funk-fusion instrumental" needs.
