Alt-rock titans Soundgarden opened their first full tour in 14 years on Saturday night when they performed at the Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto, reports the Toronto Sun.
Chris Cornell greeted the 16,000 strong crowd with, "Welcome to the first show of the first tour in 13, 14 years. This is the best place to start. It sounds like bulls--t, but it’s not bull-s--t."
The grunge icons wasted no time in kicking off the set and started with newest track 'Black Rain' which was the only new song to appear on 2010's 'Telephantasm' compilation, released last August.
The foursome, made up of founding members Chris Cornell & Kim Thayil along with drummer Matt Cameron & bassist Ben Shepherd, raced through a 21 song set littered with classic 90's anthems such as 'Rusty Cage', 'My Wave' and 'Black Hole Sun.'
Toronto was the first stop of a 20-date tour that wraps July 30 in Washington state; the band is also slated to headline a festival in New Orleans on Oct. 28
Soundgarden are currently working on a new album which according to drummer Matt Cameron is 80% done. Cameron told Boston radio station WAAF: "We're going to record a couple of more songs in August when we get back from tour and then hopefully we can mix it up and put it out."
