Jeff Beck to made an Honorary Doctor of Music
Fri, 15 Jul 2011
Ever since Jeff Beck was first recruited to replace Eric Clapton in The Yardbirds on the recommendation of Jimmy Page he has gone on to become one of the greatest guitarists of his generation, some may even say the very best.
The fact that he released arguably his best album at the same time he reached his 65th birthday, the phenomenal 'Emotion & Commotion', is proof that, even after 45 years in business, he still has a lot more to give and it appears we are not alone on our assumption.
Beck was recently nominated by the Brighton Institute of Modern Music, whose degree courses are validated by the University of Sussex, for an honorary Doctor of Music degree.
Now Gigwise.com reports that he is to made an Honorary Doctor of Music.
Harvey Goldsmith, CBE, Jeff Beck’s Manager, said: "Jeff Beck is today considered to be the finest guitarist in the world. He has inspired generations of young guitarists and is delighted to be recognised for his work."
Beck will receive his award on July 21st at the University's graduation ceremony for the School of Media, Film and Music at the Brighton Dome.
