Black Keys discuss inspiration for new album
Fri, 15 Jul 2011
Grammy Award winners, The Black Keys have revealed in a recent interview with Spin.com that their next album was inspired by bands such as The Clash and The Cramps as well as 'old rock'n'roll, rockabilly and garage rock records.'
"It's the fastest we've ever played', Dan Auerbach told Spin "The new album doesn't sound like Brothers. It doesn't have that open soul feel to it. It's way more driving and the tempos are really fast."
The as-yet untitled new record was recorded at Auerbach's Nashville studio with producer Brian Burton, aka Danger Mouse. The cult blues-rock duo, who came bounding into mainstream after years in the shadows in 2008 with their fifth album 'Attack & Release', spoke highly of their acclaimed producer buddy, they said:
"He understands all the different kinds of music we're into. He's got really great ideas about melody and song structure. For him it's all about the song."
The Black Keys are only scheduled to perform a handful of live gigs this summer which gives them plenty of time to complete the album. Although Auerbach will be keeping busy producing for bands such as Hacienda, Dr. John and The Growlers.
