Rare Ronnie James Dio cuts to be released
Wed, 20 Jul 2011
A batch of previously unreleased blues-rock tracks from the late Ronnie James Dio are finally to be released.
The rare honky tonk cuts are taken from Dio's earliest days when he was bassist and vocalist with The Elves the band he formed with Doug Thaler, Gary Driscoll, Nick Pantas and his cousin David Feinstein. The band was originally called The Electric Elves, but was shortened to The Elves and finally Elf.
Undercover.fm are reporting that twelve previously unreleased tracks from the late 60's are to be released as an album called 'And Before Elf....There Were Elves.'
The songs are a mix of both studio and live tracks that have been re-mastered by long-time Dio engineer Wyn Davies.
The album will also include a 3D lenticular hologram on the cover featuring alternating shots of a young Dio taken from the first Elf album.
'And Before Elf… There Were Elves' will be released by Niji Entertainment Group on October 11.
