Iron Maiden frontman now Dr Bruce Dickinson

Thu, 21 Jul 2011

First it was Jeff Beck and now Bruce Dickson has been made an Honouree Doctorate of Music.

The Iron Maiden singer, airline pilot, broadcaster, author, director, screenwriter and actor received the honour for his contributions to the music industry from Queen Mary University in London on Tuesday (19th July).

Although this isn't a first for Dickinson as he attended the University, situated in Mile End, East London, in 1979 where he read history before joining up with fellow students and musicians to form a band that would eventually evolve into 'Speed', which Dickinson described as a cross between Judas Priest & The Stranglers with a Hammond organ.

Iron Maiden are currently on their 'The Final Frontier' tour in support of their 2010 album of the same name.
