Australia's Soundwave Revolution Festival cancelled
Wed, 10 Aug 2011
Soundwave Revolution, Australia's travelling music festival has been cancelled after they lost their second biggest headliner from the line up.
The news leaked when Steel Panther drummer, Stix Zadinia, updated his twitter account about the cancelled event before promoters could make the announcement.
Festival promoter AJ Maddah, took to the airwaves on Australia's Nova 969 station to address the situation.
"The festival as we know it has been canceled. The situation is that we were scheduled to make a second announcement on the first of August, which had our festival co-headliner on that announcement. Their circumstances changed at the last minute and they had to pull out. And unfortunately we don't have enough time to replace them. And we didn't really want to go ahead with an incomplete lineup."
"We were supposed to make the public announcement this evening anyway. But what we wanted to do — because a lot of those bands are still coming and we are creating packages and what have you, for them to do in clubs and other venues." He then went on to add, "So that we could say the festival in its format is no longer happening [and] that these shows are taking its place. Unfortunately, one of those artists jumped the gun and leaked the news of the festival cancelation via Twitter."
Tickets holders for Soundwave Revolution will get a full refund, see festival website for details.
It has been reported that festival organisers were trying to secure Aerosmith for the 5 date festival tour for the second headliner slot. Triple M music report for Nui Te Koha revealed that the ultimate reason for the festival's cancellation was not the headliner situation, but the lack of ticket sales. "The organisers were saying they were waiting for a number 2 headliner, but the fact of the matter was ticket sales were lagging."
