Metallica/Megadeth Supergroup?

Thu, 11 Aug 2011

In an interview with 97.1 The Eagle Rocks radio station in Texas, Megadeth frontman revealed his hopes his rekindled friendship with Metallica's Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield could lead to a Metallica/Megadeth Supergroup, with his returned bassist Dave Ellefson.

"I've talked to Lars and James about me and David  doing a supergroup record with Lars and James. Well, James never said 'no,' but it's still kind of out there in the air. I'm gonna keep hammering on him. It's on my bucket list." he explains in the interview which can be heard in full here.

During the interview he also talked about why former guitarist Marty Friedman isn't welcome & won't be returning to Megadeth, "Well, first off, he's not welcome. I mean, it's not that he's not welcome, it's just that there's no position for him." He says before going on to add, "And Marty's not as good as Chris (Broderick). And Marty wanted to be a pop guitar player. He left to join a girl in a band in Japan."
He also added that the Megadeth line up featuring Marty Friedman and Nick Menza "wasn't the most important lineup", and declared that "The lineup that we have right now has achieved more than those guys ever did. If you think about it, the groundwork, the building the band back up from nothing… Marty and Nick got in the band when the band was already huge."

Megadeth's 13th Studio album "TH1RT3EN" is out October 31st (UK)/November 1st (US), details here.
