Queen legend performs with My Chemical Romance at UK Festival

Tue, 30 Aug 2011

My Chemical Romance stormed through Friday night's Reading Festival and surprised the crowd with their very special guest, none other than Queen legend Brian May.

Pro-Shot footage of the performance including the Queen hit "We Will Rock You" and My Chemical Romance's "Welcome to the Black Parade" can be seen in the youtube player below.

Brian May joined the band to play during their encore after frontman Gerard Way reached out for advice on their return to Reading Festival (after their 2006 appearance where the crowd pelted them with bottles).

Speaking to NME.com about the collaboration, Gerard Way explained, "I told him this whole story and how we were gonna go back and could he give me some advice. So we just got talking and I went to his house – I got off a plane, went to his house, went to his jam room, jammed out, did a soundcheck. I had a feeling that morning, it flipped in my brain, not, ‘Are we ready for this’, I almost felt like ‘Is the crowd ready for us?’"

Brian May also spoke about the performance on his website on Sunday, with nothing but compliments for the New Jersey band, he said, "The band are all masters of their craft ... their vocabulary is one that I understand. They're young, but they've already been there, experienced the terrain, and developed the skills to take touring in their stride; and cheerfully pay the price it costs in terms of family life. They are a family, and I was very happy to be a part of it for a magic moment."
