Following a string of Soundgarden reunion shows frontman Chris Cornell has surprised fans by announcing his intentions to release a live album recording of his Songbook tour, reports Gibson
The unplugged solo jaunt has already taken Cornell to Australia, New Zealand & South America with upcoming dates across the US & an expected European trek.
The album will be made up of tracks from both Cornell's solo catalogue along with Soundgarden & Audioslave numbers with a few covers thrown in for good measure. Soundgarden picks on the album include acoustic renditions of 'Black Hole Son' & 'Fell on Black Days' while Audioslave choices are 'I Am the Highway' & 'Like a Stone'.
In related news Cornell had been speaking with Artist Direct about Soundgarden's upcoming album.
Cornell said: "It’s shaping up to be loud and heavy. "… No matter what, Soundgarden is always going to be heavier. However, I also think musically the new Soundgarden stuff is different than anything we've ever done," he said. "Having said that, I think that's a theme we've always had. I think every time we've made a record it wasn't really that easy to compare it to the previous one—other than that we're the same band. I think may be some moments that are sort of sonically quieter and more stripped-down. On the whole, it's a rock record. That's what we do."
Chris Cornell 'Songbook' will be released on Nov.21 through Universal
