Chickenfoot vocalist Sammy Hagar has accused his former Van Halen band mates of using ex-bassist Michael Anthony, who also plays in Chickenfoot , of using his backing vocals via tape on their 2008 tour with David Lee Roth, even though Anthony had long left the outfit.
According to UltimateClassicRock (via Attention Deficit Delirium) Hagar said:
"Those vocal harmonies on the last tour were Mike on tape.. Mike should have reamed them for it." Sammy should know, having partnered up with Anthony on four Van Halen albums and two Chickenfoot records so far, as well as countless concerts."
He goes on to state, "Wolfie (Eddie Van Halen’s son and current Van Halen bassist) doesn’t sing like that, and Ed sure as hell don’t." Hagar then challenges people to go on the internet and listen to audio of Eddie singing along with Hagar during songs like ‘When it’s Love’ (clip here) on their last tour together in 2004. "Ed can’t sing, and his voice is shot if he can, from cigarettes and booze anyway."
During the interview Hagar also offered his managerial services to Guns N' Roses, but only with classic line-up back in place, he said:
"The amount of money they could make if they got it all back together, made a great record and toured the world would probably be as much as The Rolling Stones, and for them not to do it, it obviously ain’t about the money. Because they could do it. I would manage them.
"I’d be their manager and make sure they got the right deal from all the promoters. They could be the biggest band in the world if they wanted to."
The current Chickenfoot album 'Chickenfoot III' was released on Sept.27 and features the talents of Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony, Chad Smith and Sammy Hagar.
