Metallica cancel show in Delhi due to safety concerns, but go ahead with Bangalore show.

Mon, 31 Oct 2011

Metallica were set to play their first show in India this weekend, but after a press conference upon their arrival in Delhi, the band and organisers were forced to postpone the show that night after encoutering 'technical difficulties' and safety concerns, after a security barrier infront of the stage collapsed the concert.

Promoters were unable to secure a permit for the rearrangement of the show to the following evening, and the band made an update on their website to apologise to the fans and reassuring them that "Our first and foremost concern is always for the safety of you, the fans."

BBC News reported yesterday that four of the show's organisers have been arrested on fraud charges, after the gig was called off and fans were refused refunds which caused them to riot and destroy the stage and equipment. Footage of the fans destroying the stage can be seen here.

One fan who witnessed the chaos at the event site said, "The gates were scheduled to open at 3pm as printed on the tickets. I was there around 4.00pm and by 6.00pm when the gates didn't open, thousands of fans who had gathered began shouting slogans and later grew restive and began kicking the barriers and climbing on top of cars, screaming."

The band went ahead with their show last night in Bangalore, making that their first show in India (ever). Many fans from Delhi, dropped everything and secured last minute flights and tickets to attend the show. "We do not mind paying anything to watch METALLICA, but we have not received a refund for our Delhi tickets yet. We had a tough time getting last minute air tickets to Bangalore, but somehow took connecting flights and reach in record time," one fan at the Bangalore show said.
