Sting has backed a new £1.3 million music centre to help disadvantaged youth in his hometown of Newcastle, reports The Express
The Police frontman & bassist has pledged his support for the project, whose aim is to transform disused railway arches behind the renowned Sage music venue in Gateshead into a creative music hub for the next generation of musicians.
Sting says: "Having grown up on (the area of) Tyneside, I'm pleased to support this appeal for The Arches project and The Sage Gateshead's ongoing commitment to creating opportunities for today's young musicians and music lovers in the North East."
Lord Puttnam of Queensgate, Chair of The Sage Gateshead, adds; "Sting has always been a great friend to this organisation so for him to cement his support by becoming patron of this hugely important project is a milestone for The Sage Gateshead and greatly appreciated by all the people connected to it."
