Conservative MP banned from wearing Iron Maiden t shirt in Commons

Fri, 16 Dec 2011

Conservative MP & avid Iron Maiden fan, Mike Weatherley, was unable to fulfil his pledge to his Hove constituents to wear his beloved Iron Maiden tour shirt in the House of Commons, reports BBC News.

Weatherley was speaking on the Daily Politics show discussing cultural links between music & politics when the show's host, Andre Neil, took him to task and asked if in-fact he had fulfilled his pledge, to which Weatherley responded with

'I have worn my Iron Maiden t-shirt in Westminster, absolutely'

Before the show's host Neil interrupts by asking to clarify if he had actually worn it in the commons. To which Weatherley responds with:

'In Wesminster Hall I have but not in the commons as I'm not allowed, although I have asked the speaker for permission but he said no.'
