Stone Sour are heading out to play at Brazil's famous Rock In Rio festival next week and have announced Mike Portnoy will be joining them behind the drum kit to fill in for Roy Mayorga.

In an announcement on their website last night, the band confirm that Roy Mayorga asked Portnoy personally to take his place at the show so he could stay home as he awaits the birth of his first daughter.

Speaking about his teaming up with Stone Sour, Mike Portnoy said, "It's my honor and pleasure to be able to help out my good friends in Stone Sour and my brother Roy in their time of need. It's also an unexpected treat for me to get another visit with some of the greatest fans in the world down in Brazil."

Last year Mike Portnoy toured throughout most of 2010 in the UK and US alongside Stone Sour during his time with Avenged Sevenfold.

Stone Sour fans can expect a new EP/DVD release later this year which will feature footage filmed at the their Brighton, UK show last November.
