Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony talk about new Van Halen songs

Tue, 31 Jan 2012

With all the previews from Van Halen's upcoming new album streaming online, former band members (and current Chickenfoot band mates) Michael Anthony and Sammy Hagar have recently spoken about the "new" songs in a series of radio interviews.

Sammy Hagar spoke to Radio Metal about the new music from his former band, "What I've heard so far, I wasn't impressed with at all, personally."

The singer went on to add, "I think in CHICKENFOOT, we've raised the bar a little bit on what a four-piece rock band can do, and I think they chose to take the easy route and take some of their old stuff and and re-record it instead of writing new songs. Who is VAN HALEN today? I don't know, I don't think the fans are going to be happy with it."

"I think there's zero inspiration and zero creativity. If there was any, they would write new songs."
he then goes on to say when talking about the rewriting of older songs.

Hagar also believes his new foursome is better than Van Halen right now, and urges fans to compare the latest albums of both bands. "Take the new albums and compare them track by track and then tell me."

Meanwhile, Bass player Michael Anthony told Planet Rock he won't be going after VH for writing credits on the songs he originally wrote and worked on during his time in the band, "I don't want to do anything, I just let it be." He added, "And, hey, it'll be nice to hear some of those old songs again that I haven't played in a long time."

The bassist also explained that some of the songs on the album were written in the 1970's, he added that 'She's the Woman' "is actually a song that was, basically, written before I even joined VAN HALEN."
