'Given To The Wild' described as 'too experimental' by Fiction Records

The Maccabees released their much anticipated third studio album, 'Given To The Wild', on January 15 to mixed reactions.
The new album shies away from the band's indie-rich predecessors and embodies the art-rock sound the band had always flirted with. However, despite what the hardcore nucleus of The Maccabees' fan-base think, 'Given To The Wild' has been a commercial success claiming the UK Number Four spot upon its first week of release.
Narrowly missing out on their first Number One with the new record, guitarist Felix White has described the experience as a 'sinking feeling' in a recent interview with the Daily Star and states that even their label home had voiced concerns over the album, claiming it would be 'too experimental' to achieve mainstream success.
He said:
"Fiction were really worried. They thought we were making a concept album. They were talking about a low-key release. They thought it was going to be this lo-fi, weird-sounding record."
Last week (January 27) The Maccabees' announced they will perform their biggest show to date on June.8 at London's Alexandra Palace. To check ticket availability head here
